Terms of Service
Last updated: April 3, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Bookshelf application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Bookshelf is a reading tracker application available on iOS and Android. The App allows you to:
- Track your reading library, including physical books and audiobooks
- Log reading sessions and set reading goals
- Organize books into custom shelves and book nooks
- Capture and store your favorite quotes
- View reading statistics and heatmaps
- Share your public reading profile
- Customize the app with aesthetic themes
3. Premium Access
Bookshelf offers premium access ("Bookshelf Premium") through two purchase types that unlock additional features:
3a. Subscriptions (Monthly / Annual)
- Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Billing: Your Apple ID or Google Play account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing Subscriptions: You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings at any time after purchase.
- No Refunds: Unused portions of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Prices may vary by region and are subject to change. Any changes will be communicated in advance.
3b. Lifetime Access
Bookshelf also offers a one-time "Lifetime Access" purchase. By purchasing Lifetime Access, you agree to the following:
- Definition of "Lifetime": Lifetime Access grants premium access for the operational lifetime of the Bookshelf application — meaning as long as the App is actively maintained and available on the App Store or Google Play. It does not guarantee perpetual access in the event the App is discontinued.
- One-Time Purchase: Lifetime Access is a non-subscription, one-time purchase. There is no auto-renewal charge.
- Account-Bound: Lifetime Access is linked to your Bookshelf account and the app store account used for the purchase. It is non-transferable.
- Discontinuation Notice: In the unlikely event that the App is permanently discontinued, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via in-app notification and email (if provided).
- Refunds: Lifetime Access purchases are generally non-refundable except as required by applicable law or the refund policy of Apple or Google.
- Promotional Pricing: Lifetime Access may occasionally be offered at a promotional price for a limited time. Purchasing at a promotional price grants the same access as the standard price.
All purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not store or process payment information directly.
4. User Accounts
You may create an account to access personalized features. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Providing accurate and truthful information during registration
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
5. User Content
You may submit content such as book reviews, quotes, notes, and profile information ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you:
- Retain ownership of your User Content
- Grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your User Content solely to operate and improve the App
- Represent that your User Content does not violate any third-party rights or applicable laws
We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms or that we deem inappropriate, without notice.
6. Intellectual Property
The App, Website, and all related content - including but not limited to design, themes, graphics, logos, and code - are owned by Bookshelf and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission. Book cover images and metadata displayed in the App are sourced from third-party providers and remain the property of their respective owners.
7. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its infrastructure
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Submit false or misleading information
- Use automated means to access or scrape the App or its data
8. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review it to understand our practices.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Bookshelf and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the App - even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page or through in-app notifications. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
